Before the call
What's useful to have thought about.
Nothing formal — but the calls that go best tend to have rough answers to these already:
- What has to be true in twelve months for this hire to have been the right one?
- Who else has a vote — the board, the lead investor, a co-founder?
- Has this role existed before, or are you defining it for the first time?
- What's the honest state of the platform and the team they'd inherit?
If you don't know yet, that's fine — settling exactly that is the first step of the search itself.
